Alrewas war memorial is located at the junction of Main Street and Post Office Road and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is composed of a two-stepped base, plinth, shaft and Latin cross and mounted on a large concrete base. The inscriptions are incised in the base and plinth and commemorate the veterans of the First and Second World Wars.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,200 towards the conservation of this memorial. The inscriptions had lost legibility and historical research had uncovered missing names. The missing names were added to the war memorial to the same style, format and font as the original names and the existing inscriptions were re-painted using black enamel paint.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
“To the eternal memory of the
men of Alrewas whose names
are inscribed hereon, who gave
their lives for the empire in
the Great War, and of all those
others from this parish who
fought under the flag during
the same period 1914-1919
In like manner
we honour the men of Alrewas
whose names are inscribed below
Who gave their lives in the Second World War
1939-1945
(names)”
