St George's Wilton war memorial after grant works © Michael Yardley 2014St George’s Wilton war memorial is located in St George's Churchyard on Fons George and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is composed of a two stepped base surmounted by a plinth, shaft and Calvary cross. The inscriptions are incised in the plinth and base and commemorate the fallen of the First World War.

In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £450 towards the conservation of this memorial. The memorial’s inscriptions were becoming illegible due to deterioration and vegetative growth. The works included; cleaning the memorial using water and soft brittle brushes, and the letters were sharpened where necessary using hand tools.
