Coleshill war memorial is located at the junction of Village Road and Barracks Hill and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is composed of a three-stepped base, plinth, shaft and wheel cross. The inscriptions are incised in the plinth and base and painted black and commemorate the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. The memorial is in a conservation area.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £684 towards the conservation of this memorial. The works included; cleaning the memorial using non-metallic bristle brushes and water, in some areas a low pressure steam cleaning system was used, loose and defective mortar was removed using hand tools, and joints were re-pointed using a lime mortar mix. The lettering, which had become difficult to read, was re-painted and the chain link fence to the front of the memorial was removed, treated and repainted before being reinstated.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
“This cross was raised & this
churchyard consecrated
in loving memory of those
from this village who died
in the Great War 1914-1919
Ye that live on mid English pastures green
remember us and think what might have been”
“(names)”
“1939-1945
