Hartfield war memorial after grant works © Hartfield Parish Council 2014Hartfield memorial is located on the High Street and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is formed of a stone two stepped base surmounted by a plinth shaft and metal Latin cross. The cross bears a sword of sacrifice and the inscriptions are incised in the base. Hartfield war memorial is dedicated to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.

In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £862 towards the conservation of this memorial. The inscriptions on the memorial were losing legibility so the memorial was cleaned by hand using soft non-metallicHartfield war memorial before grant works © Hartfield Parish Council 2013  bristle brushes and water and the individual letters which were no longer readable were sharpened up by hand and re-painted using black enamel paint as per the original colour. The works also included raking out by hand loose and defective mortar and re-pointing these joints using an appropriate non-cementitious lime mortar.

Hartfield war memorial was unveiled on Sunday 10th October 1920 by John McAndrew, Esq., and dedicated by the Rector of Hartfield.
