Padstow war memorial is located at St Saviour’s Point and is formed of a three stepped base, roughhewn plinth and shaft and a wheel cross. At the base of the shaft there is a relief of a wreath and the dates of the First World War. The lettering is painted on the plinth and commemorates soldiers who fought in the First and Second World Wars.
In 2014, War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £675 towards cleaning the memorial and re-painting the lettering. The cleaning was undertaken using a steam cleaning system, and was required due to vegetative growth encroaching on the memorial’s design. The re-painting was carried out with black enamel paint to the lettering which had deteriorated.
The memorial was unveiled on 27th September 1922 and the inscription reads:
"1914
1919
To
the glory of God
in honoured memory of
the men of Padstow
whose names are recorded hereon
who gave their lives
in the Great War.
Also
In grateful appreciation
of the services
of those who returned.
