The British Korean Veterans war memorial is in the memorial garden in Leeman Road, York. It takes the form of an angled stone tablet. There are no names on the memorial.
In 2005 War Memorials Trust gave £200 towards the costs of cleaning the memorial and installing a 2ft high Portland limestone plinth upon which the stone was fixed to keep it above the water level when the River Ouse floods. The frequent submersion of the stone meant it had required regular cleaning and there were concerns that all the cleaning and waterlogging would damage the memorial.
The memorial was originally constructed in April 2005 and was designed by F. Emerson. After completion of the remedial work the British Korean Veterans Association (York Branch) held a rededication ceremony for the memorial on 8th July 2006.
Atop the memorial is the inscription
In memory of
those who gave their lives
during the war in
Korea
1950 – 1953
