Bagshot memorials cross after works © Windlesham Parish Council, 2014The Bagshot war memorial is in the form of a floriated memorial cross constructed from Clipsham stone. The cross sits atop a tapering shaft on a four stepped octagonal base and is within the churchyard of St Anne’s Church. The memorial was originally located on the A30 but was moved to its current location in 1948 following damage by a vehicle in 1947 and plans to widen the road.

An application to the Grants for War Memorials scheme was received in 2014 for works to clean and re-point the memorial. IN addition there were two areas of significantly damaged stone which required repair. The smaller of these areas was Bagshot memorial cross before works © Windlesham Parish Council, 2014addressed by the use of a stone indent. The larger delaminated area was to the stone which carried the general World War inscription. Due to the degree of damage it was necessary to replace this stone with a newly inscribed stone following the same style, format and wording as original. A grant of £2,255 was awarded to this project which had an overall cost of £3,011.
