St John the Baptist Church war memorial © St John the Baptist, 2012This war memorial consists of a hooded cross with a carved figure of Christ. The cross stands on a tapered shaft surmounting a square plinth and 3 stepped base. The memorial is dedicated to the men of the Parish who lost their lives fighting in World War I.

In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £510 towards essential repair works to the memorial. A crack just below the collar of the crucifix was causing concerns with the stability of the cross. It was proposed that the cross is carefully removed and the rusting fixing and all traces of rust be removed and replaced with a non-ferrous fixing. When the cross was taken down the damage to the section of shaft immediately below the St John the Baptist Church war memorial © St John the Baptist, 2013collar was damaged beyond repair therefore it was necessary to replace this with a matching piece of stone. This was mortared in place and all of the joints were raked out an re-pointed using an appropriate, non-cementitious lime mortar.

The memorial was erected in 1920 at a cost of £185 which was raised by public subscription.
