The memorial consists of a Celtic wheel cross surmounting a tapering shaft both of which have a carved knotwork design on the face and stand on a tapering plinth, all constructed of granite.
In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £822 towards cleaning of the memorial using de-ionised water and non-metallic soft bristle brushes, the addition of missing names from the memorial in lead to the same design as the original letters and for the re-painting of the original lead lettering using a black enamel paint.
The memorial was erected in 1918, and was commissioned by Col & Mrs Bryce Stewart whose son was killed in action in France in 1915. Col Stewart endowed the memorial with £250 capital invested in governemt 4% bonds to maintain the memorial; which today earns £10.76 per annum. The architect is unknown but the craftsman is thought to have been a local stonemason.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
