Ulverston Victoria High School has a remarkable collection of photographs in an oak display cabinet showing 159 masters and scholars who fought in the First World War. The school is on Springfield Road in Ulverston.
War Memorials Trust gave £500 in 2005 towards restoring the damaged photographs. Unfortunately the collection had suffered some water damage and several photos were showing traces of silver nitrate. The oak cabinets in which the photographs were stored were discovered to be a terrible environment for the photographs as the wood is very acidic. Therefore the cabinets were relined to protect the photographs.
The photograph collection was cleaned and restored and was put on display at the schools annual service of remembrance on 11th November 2005.
