FAQs
The answers to many questions we frequently get contacted about can be found in the FAQs section of the website including the definition of a war memorial, the importance of war memorials and the law in relation to war memorials.
War Memorials in poor condition or 'at risk'
If you are looking for information on war memorials in poor condition or 'at risk' then a first point of call should be War Memorials Online. This website is creating a greater understanding of the condition of war memorials across the UK and is seeking the assitance of the public to identify the condition of war memorials in their area.
Metal theft
War memorials suffered from the rise in metal theft around 2011-12 and there were a number of high profile cases. However, more recent statistics show theft, vandalism and graffiti cases are relatively low as discussed in some of our regular news releases on the subject. War Memorials Trust provides advice on preventing theft thorugh its helpsheets and In Memoriam 2014. It also supports communities dealing with the consequenes of theft with advice and grants.
