Timeframes
War Memorials Trust is currently planning to develop its Learning Programme in stages, and the proposed steps are outlined below. (Please note that all activities and dates mentioned here are still provisional and may change.)
Since the start of the Learning Programme, the Learning Officer has been working closely with schools, heritage organisations and the MOD to identify the key objectives for the programme and build partnerships across the country. War Memorials Trust is extremely grateful for the help and support received over the last few months, and looks forward to collaborating with these organisations in the future.
Design of the new learning website is currently underway and Trust staff will be working with our web developers soon to create the site.
Starting in January 2012, the Learning Officer will begin developing materials for primary schools and will be working with schools to test them, before adding them to the learning website. We anticipate that the website will be live by July so that the first primary materials are available for the new school year in September.
Development of the materials for secondary schools will begin around May 2012, with testing in schools going on during the autumn term 2012. We hope that these will start to become available on the website during the spring term 2013.
The continuation of the Learning Programme is dependent on War Memorials Trust securing sufficient funding. If funding is secured the Learning Officer hopes to work closely with volunteers to develop talks and workshops to be delivered in schools or to youth groups. War Memorials Trust also wishes to extend the programme by creating resources for non-education based groups to use, including Scouting and Cadet units.
More information on the provision of the Learning Programme will be available on the learning website at www.learnaboutwarmemorials.org. This will be updated regularly as the programme progresses so users are kept informed of what is happening.
