Custodianship

These helpsheets are designed to assist war memorial custodians in their management of their memorial(s).  We all have a responsibily to ensure war memorials are preserved for future generations and this information is designed to help those who have the legal duty to care for them.

• Advice on maintenance of war memorials - this leaflet has been produced to provide basic maintenance guidance to war memorial custodians.  Regular checks can help spot potential problems early enabling action to be taken to prevent major problems developing.
• Churches containing war memorials - there are a number of issues which are specific to the custodianship of war memorials in Churches and Churchyards.  This helpsheet discusses these issues.
• Insurance for war memorials - this helpsheet offers basic information about the insurance of war memorials.  War Memorials Trust recommends that custodians consider insuring their war memorials for future protection.
• Looking after your war memorial - this helpsheet provides guidance about how to check a war memorial for potential problems and suggests the types of information custodians should record about their memorials.
• Ownership of war memorials - the ownership or custodianship of war memorials can be difficult to establish and will require some reserach into the history of the memorial.  This helpsheet explains about the ownership of war memorials and where to find further information.
