In 2008, a grant of £810 supported conservation works to the plaque which included specilaist cleaning, re-touching of areas with specific pigments, re-gilding where necessary and the surface cleaning of the marble and application of Cosmolloid wax.
The memorial was unveiled on 24th July 1921.
The inscription on the plaque reads:
"To the Glory of God, and in grateful memory of the men of East Illsey who laid down their lives in the Great War" (sic)
