The war memorial at the Catholic church of St David’s on Esbank Road in the Midlothian town of Dalkeith takes the form of a calvary. A wooden crucifix stands on a stone plinth with a wooden canopy. The Christ figure is made of fibreglass and painted. At the base of the cross are three tablets laid on a gravelled base, surrounded by a stone kerb. The two outer tablets are longer and inscribed with names of the fallen. The dedication is on the smaller central tablet.
In August 2004 War Memorials Trust made a grant of £250 towards works to repair the Christ figure which had been damaged by vandalism and fallen off the cross.
The memorial was originally erected in around 1920 by Lady Anne Kerr, the wife of the Duke of Buccleugh, in honour of her brother and all the men from the surrounding areas who were killed in the First World War.
