The war memorial consists of a granite square plinth with bronze plaques which is raised on a four stepped based. Surmounting the plinth is a bronze kilted highland solider in Tam O Shanter, pack and full kit.
In 2017 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £6,120 for conservation and repair works. The memorial had a number of defective and open construction joints which were allowing water to get into the memorial. The bronze plaques required to be cleaned and there were uneven sections of paving at the base of the memorial. The grant funding supported works to appropriately clean the bronze plaque followed by re-waxing to protect the bronze from corrosion. The defective mortar were removed and the stonework was re-pointed with a lime mortar. The uneven sections of paving were lifted and re-laid.
Unfortunately little is known about the history of the memorial. The inscription on the front of the elevation of the memorial reads:
In honour
of those who fought
and
in the Great War
1914 1918
