Small Grants Scheme
This scheme is administered by the Trust and funded purely through its own fundraising. Below is an outline of the key information relating to the scheme. Please see the ‘Principles and eligibility criteria’ document for detailed information on the grant scheme, what it can and cannot fund and the application process. The ‘Guidance Notes’ give details on the information required for an application.
Eligible memorials:
- All war memorials in the UK over 15 years old
Deadlines:
- There are no set deadlines. Applications are regularly assessed throughout the year
Amount of funding available:
- Up to 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum grant of £2,500
Key requirements:
- Memorials must be over 15 years old to be eligible
- If the applicant is not responsible for the memorial, written permission must be supplied from the owner consenting to the works
- Any additional permissions required, such as Listed Building Consent, must be obtained before commencement
- Two quotes are required for an application to this scheme
Examples of eligible works:
- Cleaning, under certain circumstances
- Improving legibility of inscriptions
- Like-for-like repairs
- Professional condition surveys or structural reports by conservation professionals to inform future repair work
- Replacement of lost elements integral to the design of the memorial when supported by historical evidence
- Addition of names, where they can be sympathetically accommodated on the existing memorial
Examples of ineligible works:
- New war memorials
- Works to graves of any types
- Maintenance
- Inappropriate methods or materials
- Relocation, unless it meets the specific criteria outlined
- Works to memorials under 15 years old unless in response to vandalism
- Soft landscaping
- Work which has already started or been completed
Applying:
- If you are interested in applying to this scheme, you must first complete a ‘Grants Expression of interest’ form
- If your project is eligible then you will be sent the appropriate application documents
- Please ensure you allow adequate time to submit a ‘Grants Expression of interest’ form and receive a decision on this, as well as making a formal application if you have specific timeframes in mind
