At Holy Trinity Church, Balmoral Road in Northampton the war memorial takes the form of a clock with a face on each side of the tower. The clock faces are circular with white Roman numerals used for the numbers. There is also an accompanying brass plaque. The Church is Grade II* listed.
In 2011 the Trust gave a grant of £2,119 towards the electrification of the clock as since the 1990s the clock had not been working; remedial works using the existing mechanism had not been successful. Due to the importance of the original clock mechanism this has been retained in-situ. As the Church is listed a Faculty was required for the works.
The clock has the date of 1920 on it and was produced by the clockmakers Gents of Leicester. The clock was gifted by Mr George and Mrs Mary Allinson; George was a local shoe manufacturer and the couple were parishioners of the Church since it opened in 1909.
The inscription on the brass plaque reads:
“The clock in this tower
was presented by
George Frederick and
Mary Ann Allinson
in loving memory of those
who gave their lives
for their country in the
Great War 1914-1918
and in gratitude for those
who safely returned
“Lord God of hosts be with us yet.
Lest we forget.” ”
