The war memorial in the Suffolk village of Fornham All Saints, near Bury St Edmunds, stands on The Green. It is a simple stone cross on a square plinth on a two-stepped octagonal base. The memorial, which commemorates thirteen men, stands on a paved area and is surrounded by low metal fence. There is a dedication inscribed on one face of the plinth, and names are inscribed on the other faces.
In April 2005 War Memorials Trust gave £250 towards work to clean the memorial and re-paint the lettering.
The dedication on the memorial reads
To the glory of God
and in grateful memory
of the men of this parish
who gave their lives
in the Great War
1914-1919
Their name liveth for evermore
The original memorial was unveiled and dedicated on Sunday March 13th 1921. A service was held in the parish church beforehand and Sir John Wood M P unveiled the memorial and Canon F J Fulford, the rector of Fornham All Saints dedicated it. Fifty one years later, almost to the day (19th March 1972) the memorial was demolished in a car accident and had to be completely rebuilt.
