Newark war memorial stands in St Mary Magdalene church, Church Walk in Appletongate. It is within Newark Conservation Area and is Grade II listed. The memorial cross is in the style of Sir Reginald Blomfield’s cross of sacrifice; a simple Portland stone Latin cross with a bronze sword on the east face.
In 2000/1 the English Heritage Grants for the Repair and Conservation of War Memorials scheme gave a grant of £3,515 towards cleaning the bronze sword, cleaning and re-pointing stonework and relaying York stone paving.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
