Hinckley war memorial is located at the Castle on Argents Mead Walk. A victory sculpture tops a column which is surrounded by a wall which carries bronze plaques with the names of the fallen.
In 2000/1 the English Heritage Grants for the Repair and Conservation of War Memorials scheme gave a grant of £3,798 towards stonework repairs; re-pointing to walls, panels, steps, paving and column; re-lettering and cleaning and re-patination of bronze plaques and sculpture.
The memorial was unveiled on 20th May 1922 and rededicated on 22nd November 1951 when the names of World War II were added.
The memorial is inscribed with several tributes which include:
“To keep in mind those from this place who gave their lives in the Great War 1914 – 1919”
“Their name liveth for ever more”
“The names of those who gave their lives in the Great War”
“These plates were added in grateful memory
of those how gave their lives in the Second World War
1939 1945”
