The Snelston war memorial is an octagonal banded shaft surmounted by a crocketed Latin cross above four ogee niches containing figures of saints. The memorial is set within an octagonal paved area. It is Grade II listed building and dates from c1920.
The main issues for the memorial related to the paved area which had become slippery and uneven. Grants for War Memorials awarded £1,000 for the lifting, relaying and re-pointing of the stone paving and steps. Additionally the plinth and shaft were re-pointed using lime mortar.
The octagonal stone base is inscribed on the south face. The inscription reads:
“To the honoured memory
of the men of this parish
who fell in the Great War
1914-1918
grant them oh Lord
eternal rest
and may light perpetual
shine upon them”
The names of the men and a memorial to World War II appear on the other faces.
