Bisley war memorial © Bisley with Lypiatt Parish Council 2008The war memorial in the central Gloucestershire village of Bisley is a Cotswold limestone wheel cross on an inscribed plinth on a three-stepped base. The memorial stands in a gravelled area surrounded by metal railings in the centre of the village at the junction of the roads.

In 2006/7 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation offered £499 towards work to clean the stonework and to re-lay the gravel surrounding the memorial.

The dedication on the south side of plinth reads

"To the glory of
God
and to the memory of
the men of Bisley
who gave their lives
serving the king
in the years of our Lord
1914-1919"

"I saw... the souls of
them that were slain
for the word of God
.... And white robes were
given unto every one of
them" Rev 6.11"

Names of the World War I fallen are inscribed on the east and west faces of the plinth. On the north side of the plinth is a dedication to those who returned from the war

"Yea the Lord hath done great things for us already: whereof we rejoice" Ps CXXVI

The World War II fallen have been added to the memorial; their names have been inscribed on the risers of the top step.

The memorial was dedicated on 3rd April 1921.
