Sandwick war memorial before conservation © Harray and Sandwick Community Council, 2008Sandwick war memorial is located in the centre of St Peter’s Kirkyard which is on the south side of the Church. It is a polished granite memorial composed of a three-stepped square base, a plinth which contains the memorial’s carved and painted inscriptions, and a tapering column surmounted by a Latin cross.

In 2008 War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £672 for the cleaning of the memorial with soft bristle brushes and water to remove the lichen. The inscriptions which were fading, were re-painted with black enamel paint to improve legibility.

This memorial was dedicated in 1921. Sandwick war memorial after conservation work © Harray and Sandwick Community Council, 2009
