Calton war memorial hall © Michael P Coyle 2009Calton war memorial was an enlarged schoolroom commemorated on a sandstone tablet on the wall of St Mary's Memorial Hall. The Hall is on Back Lane in Calton.

In 2001 a grant of £100 supported re-lettering of the dedicatory tablet. The incised lettering was becoming difficult to read and re-colouring was undertaken to restore the memorial and ensure the dedication and names continue to be read.

In 2004 a further name of Sgt. Austin RAF was added to the memorial. He was the sole fatality from the village during World War II.

Inside the Hall is a display with postcard sized photographs of every man named on the plaque.

The tablet reads

A.M.D.G.
Calton Saint Mary
This school room was enlarged
