St James Church memorial clock before work © St James Church, 2014The war memorial consists of a clock which is mounted on the tower of St James Church in Aslackby.

In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £21,500 for repair and conservation work. The paint finish and the gilding of the numerals and hands on the clock dial had deteriorated. In addition the dial motion which are the set of hears situated behind the dial operated the minute and hour hands had started to get tight. To address these issues work was undertaken to dismantle and clean the dial motion and the dial was re-painted and re-glided.

The memorial clock was made by J.B Joyce & Co Ltd, from Whitchurch, Shropshire. The St James Church memorial clock during work © St James Church, 2015inscription on the dedication plaque at the base of the tower reads:

The Parish Church Clock was
Erected in the year 1920
In Memory
Of the brave men who served
In the European War 1914-1918

Church Wardens"
