The war memorial consists of a freestanding stone plinth with stepped base. Surmounting the plinth is a bronze statue of a Highland solider standing at ease in bonnet and kilt with a rifle in front of him. The memorial is located on an elevated site opposite the old drill hall and overlooking the Klye of Sutherland. Large stone retaining walls to the rear and side of the memorial form a level garden area which is enclosed by ironwork railings. Access to the memorial is through a gate on the roadside.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £10,693 for repairs to the railings. This consisted of the removal of the existing flaking paint and corrosion and where necessary the selective replacement of sections of badly corroded ironwork on a like for like basis. Following repair works the fencing was re painted. In addition, access to the memorial was improved with the sympathetic widening of the existing gate ensuring everyone can now get to the memorial to pay their tribute.
The war memorial was designed by Messrs D & A Davidson, sculptors of Inverness and built by Mr J.D Ross of Ardgay, during 1922 and into early 1923.
There are four panels on the plinth of the memorial which record the names of those who fell in the First World War and a further two plaques on the stepped base which record the names of those who fell in the Second World War.
