This memorial consists of a marble soldier with rifle standing on a polished granite tapering plinth, which is atop of a rough-hewn granite base. The plinth is inscribed with a gold guild dedication to the men of Ferryhill who served in World War I and World War II. The memorial stands in the Ferryhill Town Hall Gardens, County Durham. The memorial is Grade II listed.
In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,022 towards cleaning the memorial using a steam cleaning system, raking out the joints and re-pointing using lime mortar and re-guilding the lettering using a 23 ½ carat gold leaf.
The memorial was first erected and unveiled in 1920.
The inscription on the base reads:
Pass not this stone in sorrow but inpride
and may ye live as nobly as they died
