Events 2018-19

War Memorials Trust presents details of 2018-19 events.

WMT AGM: Monday 8th October 2018

This year’s AGM will take place at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate Church, Holborn Viaduct, London EC1A 2DQ. There will be coffee and registration at 4.30pm followed by the AGM between 5pm-5.30pm. We are delighted to announce that our guest speaker after this year’s AGM is Professor Gary Sheffield who will deliver a talk on ‘How and Why the First World War came to an end?’. Professor Sheffield will examine the role of the British and other armies in defeating the Germans on the Western Front, paying particular attention to the role of new technologies and evolving doctrine as well as the war at sea; the resilience and otherwise of the home fronts; and the role of politics and revolution. Professor Sheffield’s talk will start at 6.15pm and the whole event will finish at 8pm.

Professor Sheffield is an internationally recognised expert on World War I. He is Professor of War Studies at the University of Wolverhampton and co-Director of the First World War Research Group. His books include: ‘Forgotten: The First World War – Myths and Realities’; ‘The Somme: A New History’; and ‘Command and Morale: The British Army on the Western Front’.

After Professor Sheffield’s talk there will be a drinks reception and a book signing.

While the AGM is free to members, anyone wishing to attend the lecture will need to buy a ticket. This is a special event to mark the end of the World War I centenary in support of the charity and to raise funds for our work. For members to attend the talk and reception the ticket price is £10. For non-members the price is £25 and includes a year’s WMT membership. We hope you will be able to join us and bring along friends or family who are perhaps new to WMT but would value both the lecture and joining as a member to support the Trust’s work. To book your tickets please use the form which was enclosed in the Bulletin, email info@warmemorials.org or call us on 020 7834 0200.
